NEC Corporation India has been selected by Saharanpur Smart City Limited (SSCL) as the master system integrator for implementation of the integrated command and control centre and smart components in this major smart city project in Uttar Pradesh.
Saharanpur was identified from the 100 Smart Cities in India by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as a part of its Smart Cities Mission. A first for NEC India in the state of Uttar Pradesh, the scope of the project comprises design, supply, installation, commissioning, testing and operations and management of pan-city smart solutions.
This also includes the setting-up of an integrated command and control centre integrated traffic management system, environmental sensors, e-governance kiosks, city GIS platforms, and more at locations designated by the Saharanpur Municipal Corporation (SMC).
Aimed at improving the safety and quality of life in the city, the contract with SSCL will incorporate high-end monitoring systems with the aid of cameras at crucial traffic junctures throughout the city.
The intelligent traffic management system will be designed to integrate traffic-sensing cameras along with the adaptive traffic control systems. The automatic traffic violation detection mechanism will ensure the timely logging of various traffic violations like red light violations, riding without a helmet and overcapacity on two-wheelers, among others.
NEC will also provide a city mobile application, SAHART, which will help the authorities deliver services, address public concerns and solicit resident feedback in order to aid the operations of the smart city project.
The Saharanpur Smart City project is expected to be completed by September 2021. NEC India, which has successfully implemented large ICT projects in a number of Indian cities, has also been contracted to manage the operation and maintenance of the various systems for five years.
