Ericsson appoints new MEA head

­Swedish vendor Ericsson announced the appointment of Patrick Johansson as Head of Market Area Middle East and Africa, replacing Fadi Pharaon who announced his departure in May.

Johannson is currently is currently Head of Business Control & Operations at Ericsson’s Business Area Cloud Software & Services, and will take the reins as MEA head on August 1, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The incoming MEA boss joined Ericsson in 1997 and worked in multiple business areas of Ericsson, having lived in Sweden, Korea, India, Austria, China and Vietnam during his tenure.

Departing boss Pharaon had been in the role since 2019 and served 26 years with the vendor. He is pursuing for new opportunities.

Borje Ekholm, Ericsson President and CEO said: “Patrick has extensive understanding of our technology and business strategy which are two crucial and contributing factors to continue securing our leading industry position. I’m very pleased that he has accepted this role and look forward to having him on the Executive Team.”
