There’s been yet another announcement from Ericsson in what has been a busy few days for the tech giant. This time it involves Bangladesh’s largest mobile telecommunications operator, Grameenphone.
Grameenphone has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ericsson to collaborate and drive innovation in artficial intelligence (AI) and automation in Bangladesh.
The MoU establishes a collaboration framework between Grameenphone and Ericsson, focusing on innovation, growth and the deployment of cutting-edge AI and automation solutions through technology trials, workshops and pilot projects.
There will also be external collaborations with industry partners, regulators, and government bodies to foster sustainable innovation and growth in the telecom sector across Bangladesh.
The MoU was signed during Innovate Asia 2024, which took place from 5-7 November in Bangkok, and, say the partners, will enhance and advance the partnership between Grameenphone and Ericsson which began in 1998.
The MoU is said to be aligned with the broader digital transformation goals within Bangladesh's telecommunications landscape. As the country embraces a digital-first approach, Ericsson explains, the need for robust and efficient telecommunications infrastructure becomes increasingly critical.
This announcement caps off a busy week for Ericsson. We reported yesterday that Indonesian operator Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and Ericsson had unveiled a full-stack digital monetisation platform. Ericsson also announced this week that it had completed the expansion and modernisation of operator MTN Rwanda’s network in Kigali to extend coverage and make the network ready for 5G rollouts in the future.
