In the aftermath of January’s devastating earthquake, texting traffic in Haiti has greatly increased. Now one of the country’s leading wireless providers, Voilà, has announced that it will upgrade its Business Support System (BSS) solution and text messaging capabilities so as to better accommodate this increased volume of traffic.
Voilà will upgrade its real-time rating and billing platform to the Comverse ONE Billing and Active Customer Management solution, as well as replacing its existing text messaging capabilities with the upgraded Comverse Short Messaging Solution Centre and Messaging Gateway.
The integration between Comverse ONE and Comverse HUB takes full advantage of the similarities between their BSS and VAS systems, improving efficiency, significantly reducing total cost of ownership, and accelerating time to market.
“This is a significant upgrade to our network, which will benefit all of our Voilà customers with new features and functionality,” said Edgar Geidans, vice president, engineering and operations for Trilogy International Partners, Voilà’s parent company.
“Since the earthquake earlier this year, we have seen a surge in text messaging,” Geidans said. “This has been driven by the various support organisations on the ground in Haiti acknowledging SMS as the most efficient form of mass communications. We needed a higher-capacity messaging system for this additional traffic, and we expect SMS to remain as the preferred communication form for now.”
