Airtel Nigeria and Ericsson are launching a new OTT streaming service called Nuvu.
Nuvu will provide access to more than 3000 different television programmes, both local and international. Airtel customers will be able to download the content to their devices with no additional cost during off peak times. The content will be accessible off line for a month after the download.
The service can be accessed via a weekly or monthly subscription, and customers also receive the first two weeks for free. It will be made available via an Android app; plans are underway to release Nuvu via iOS.
President and Managing Director of Ericsson Nigeria Rutger Reman said: “The built-in ability to distribute content to consumers during off-peak periods minimises data costs for both the operator and consumer, addressing the cost challenge that has so far been an obstacle for video-on-demand uptake in Africa. Nuvu is a more inclusive VOD service than most alternatives currently available in Nigeria.”
