Japanese telecommunications giant NTT and QD.TEK, one of the leading ICT distributors in Vietnam, have announced plans to establish a joint venture to develop a new data centre in Ho Chi Minh City, a major centre of the Vietnamese economy and home to many multinational companies.
The joint venture will be called HCMC1 and will construct the new Ho Chi Minh City 1 Data Centre, which is to be launched in 2024.
The new data centre will be located in Saigon Hi-Tech Park, a well-developed IT infrastructure in a highly accessible area 15 kilometres from the centre of Ho Chi Minh City and the main centre of IT and financial services. Service provision is scheduled to commence in 2024.
The five-storey building will provide a total of 6MW of critical IT load capacity for IT equipment to 3,100 square metres (equivalent to 1,200 racks) of server rooms. With redundant power, air-conditioning, communication facilities, disaster countermeasures and extensive security, the new data centre will provide stable and high-availability services, based on the rigorous facility design to meet the Tier III standards for data centres NTT says it has cultivated over the years on a global scale.
Vietnam is one of the fastest growing economies in Asia. In addition, says NTT, cloud computing and fintech businesses are growing because of Covid-19, the Vietnam's e-government initiatives, and the promotion of the use of e-money. This growth powers the demand for data centres; in fact NTT is already providing data centre services in Hanoi.
