Could new Vertiv solution cut data centre rollout costs?

As the developing world in particular copes with fast-expanding data demand, the arrival of a new prefabricated modular data centre solution aimed at customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) may be timely.

Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has introduced the Vertiv MegaMod and Vertiv MegaMod Plus, both part of a turnkey prefabricated modular (PFM) data centre solution, deployable in expandable units of 0.5 or 1 megawatts for IT loads up to 2 megawatts or more.

Vertiv says the high-quality prefabricated modules are integrated and tested with Vertiv power management systems, thermal management solutions, remote monitoring, and IT equipment racks to deliver what the company describes as exceptional performance and help companies reduce deployment time by up to 40% compared to a traditional data centre build.

It could be an interesting offer for developing markets in particular, where such factors as data localisation requirements and the need to limit latency are encouraging the building of more new data centres.

At the same time there is inevitably a cost associated with data centre deployment and Vertiv says its two models offer up to 25% more rack and cooling capacity, enabling customers to expand core-to-edge data centre networks and to rapidly deploy new compute capacity with lower upfront costs, greater predictability, and less risk than traditional data centre builds. In addition both solutions provide options to grow horizontally or vertically.

The flexible solution capacity is described as ideal for medium size data centres and can be easily deployed and expanded as business needs grow. Vertiv also provides end-to-end services, including deployment, commissioning, ongoing maintenance, remote monitoring and training.
