STT GDC starts building third data centre in Thailand

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) announced on Monday that it has commenced construction of its third data centre facility in Thailand, STT Bangkok 2, to support demand for critical digital infrastructure in the country.

The new data centre, which is being built at STT GDC’s Bangkok data centre campus, is designed with a potential IT load capacity of 24MW, delivered through dual feeds for enhanced reliability.

STT Bangkok 1, the company's first data centre in Thailand, has been operational since September 2021 with a design IT capacity of 22MW, which means the STT Bangkok campus will pack a total design IT capacity of up to 46MW once STT Bangkok 2 is completed and ready for service by the fourth quarter of 2026.

STT GDC said the STT Bangkok 2 facility is engineered to support next-generation computing and digital infrastructure demands. For example, the facility will offer streamlined deployment for liquid cooling, specifically catering to high-density and AI workloads that demand superior thermal management. It also supports both air and liquid cooling options, allowing customers to choose the most suitable option for their specific needs.

“Combining STT GDC’s global data centre development and operational expertise with experience supporting AI workloads, STT Bangkok 2 is poised to cater to the evolving needs of our customers, particularly in high-density and AI-driven environments," said Budsarin Pradityont, country head of STT GDC Thailand.

STT GDC also runs the STT Bangkok 3 data centre in the One Bangkok district, which provides 2MW of IT capacity.

STT Bangkok 2 is the second big project commencement announcement for STT GDC in the past week. In Malysia last week, STT GDC broke ground on STT Johor 1, the first data centre facility in its  STT Johor data centre campus.
