Angola Cables’ TelCables West Africa connects to Megaport

Angola Cables subsidiary TelCables West Africa says it has partnered with global network-as-a-service (NaaS) provider Megaport to gain access to its portfolio of data centres and cloud nodes, making it the second such deal between Megaport and Angola this month.

The partnership deal, announced on Thursday, enables TelCables customers in Nigeria, Ghana and other countries in the West African region to selectively connect to over 930 data centres and more than 300 public and private cloud nodes – including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Oracle, Alibaba and Google Cloud – on Megaport’s global virtual network.

Customers can use Angola’s global backbone network to access Megaport’s network with up to a 75% discount on fees and network charges, Angola Cables said.

The partnership also enables financial, AI content and other content hosted by major data centre operators in the US and Europe to be cached closer to West African markets.

“This is a major leap forward for digital connectivity on the African continent and given the configuration of our subsea cable and partner networks, we are effectively opening a ‘super corridor’ for the express transit of data and traffic from East to West,” said Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria and West Africa, in a statement.

Fernandes added that the Megaport agreement offers multiple benefits for enterprises across Nigeria and West Africa looking to scale up and expand their operations to other parts of Africa and international markets with flexible connectivity and adjustable bandwidth at affordable rates.

“The simple and efficient interface gives users the ability to access financial institutions, from the major stock exchanges to international banking and investment houses. The options are almost limitless,” Fernandes said. “The low-latency connections can be set-up within a matter of minutes through the easy-to-use Megaport platform that makes it possible for companies to connect and scale their businesses instantly.”

Earlier this month, Megaport and Angola Cables announced a similar deal with Angola subsidiary TelCables Brasil.

As part of that deal, according to BNAmericas, Megaport will install a PoP at Angola Cables' data centre in Fortaleza in northeast Brazil.

Megaport entered the Brazilian market in November last year with four new PoPs in data centres operated by Equinix and Takoda, the report said.
