NeutraDC Nxera Batam tops off Tier III hyperscale data centre

Indonesian data centre firm NeutraDC Nxera Batam announced on Thursday it has topped off its new hyperscale data centre in the Kabil industrial estate in Batam, and has also secured Tier III design certification from the Uptime Institute.

NeutraDC (the data centre unit of state-owned telco Telkom Indonesia), Nxtera owner SingTel and Medco Power Indonesia are investing a total Rp1.4 trillion (US$85 million) over the next five years to build the facility, which began construction in June 2024.

The facilty will have an initial capacity of 18 MW at launch, and will be expanded gradually up to 54 MW.

NeutraDC Nxera Batam said the data centre is designed to be an AI-ready campus, providing a foundation to support development of AI, cloud and edge computing technology in Indonesia.

The company also announced it has signed a master service agreement (MSA) with seven ISP and telecoms partners to occupy the new facility: Permana Net, Super Sistem Group, LitUp Network Indonesia, Iforte, Telin, Matrix Nap Info and Moratelindo.

Earlier this month, according to Data Centre Dynamics, Indonesian power company PLN Batam signed an electrical purchase agreement with NeutraDC to supply 90MVA of medium-voltage electricity to the Batam data centre between 2025 and 2028.

Dian Siswarini, president director of Telkom Indonesia, said the new data centre in Batam will be an important backbone for transforming Indonesia’s digital economy.

“We are committed to continue to develop data centre infrastructure and expand Telkom Group's regional presence to be able to strengthen Indonesia's position on the map of Southeast Asia's digital economy,” she said at the topping off ceremony.
