Telkom Indonesia announced on Thursday it has inaugurated its 28th neuCentrIX Telkom edge data centre facility, which is also the first to be established in Jayapura in the eastern province of Papua.
No details were given on the facility’s IT load capacity, but Telkom said the Jayapura data centre has a total capacity of 96 racks, and supports Tier-II international security standards.
Telkom said the launch of neuCentrIX Jayapura will serve the needs of the Jayapura market area and its surroundings, as well as provide a strong digital technology foundation for governments and business actors in various sectors.
Telkom commissioner Rizal Mallarangeng said the Jayapura facility also contributes to the government’s overarching Asta Cita program, which – among other things – aims to equalise digital infrastructure across the archipelago.
"The equal distribution of digital access throughout Indonesia, including Papua, is an integral part of the great vision of national digital sovereignty,” he said in a statement. “Telkom's efforts not only present networks and infrastructure, but also an ecosystem to be a foothold for the formation of a new era in achieving modern digital independence.”
The Papua Provincial Government said the neuCentrIX Jayapura data centre will have a significant impact on the acceleration of digital transformation in the Papua region.
"neuCentrIX Jayapura is the embodiment of Telkom Group's determination to ensure equitable digital access that can be reached by all levels of society,” added Telkom president director Dian Siswarini. “By expanding the data centre network to the Papua region, Telkom supports the realization of a more resilient regional digital ecosystem and is ready to meet future technology needs.”
