SKY47 and ZTE launch AI-ready data centre in Islamabad

Digital infrastructure and sovereign cloud provider SKY47 and ZTE revealed on Tuesday they have launched what they say is Pakistan's first and largest purpose-built, AI-ready data centre campus in Islamabad.

The new facility, Karakoram-01, is a Tier III data centre purpose-built for sovereign cloud, AI acceleration, and enterprise transformation, with a total power capacity of 8.5MW.

ZTE said it delivered a fully optimized end-to-end data centre solution for the project’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) parts, which it deployed in eight months.

Karakoram-01 integrates technologies such as cold-plate liquid cooling, prefabricated power modules, and intelligent busbars, which ZTE said enables flexible cooling and power supply. It also provides a scalable and future-proof high-density computing infrastructure tailored for AI computing, which ZTE said will enable it to adapt to growing long-term demand for AI compute power.

At an inauguration ceremony for Karakoram-01 on July 24, Pakistan’s prime minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said the new data centre marks a new chapter in the evolution of the country’s digital infrastructure, and would “play a pivotal role in Pakistan's technological transformation and digital future.”

SKY47 –  which is owned by Mari Energies – is also building data centres in Lahore and Karachi, according to its website. Combined with Karakoram-01, SKY47’s data centres will offer over 3,000 racks and a combined IT capacity of over 50MW.
