Orange Slovensko and Enery sign solar energy deal

Orange Slovensko, one of the largest telecommunications operators in Slovakia, and Enery, a leading independent power producer in Central and Eastern Europe, have signed a ten-year physical power purchase agreement (PPA) linked to the supply of solar energy.

Under the agreement, Enery says it will supply renewable electricity from a new solar power plant in Slovakia to power Orange Slovensko’s network operations.

The company plans to supply 125,030 MWh of renewable electricity over the next decade, providing Orange Slovensko with a long-term, reliable source of green energy while supporting its sustainability goals and contributing to the decarbonisation of the Slovak energy system.

The electricity will be generated by a new 12.5 MWp photovoltaic power plant in the Banská Bystrica region in the centre of the country.

The plant is scheduled to become operational in 2027. Once commissioned, the facility is expected to generate approximately 15 GWh of clean electricity annually – enough to supply around 4,520 households while avoiding approximately 1,125 tons of CO₂ emissions every year.

Explaining the benefits of the agreement, Jan Horvath, Country Manager for Slovakia at Enery, says: “For Orange Slovensko, it provides long-term access to renewable electricity from a newly developed solar power plant, supporting the company’s sustainability ambitions while ensuring greater energy cost predictability. For Slovakia, it enables the development of additional renewable generation capacity, contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy system.”

Mariusz Gatza, CEO of Orange Slovensko, adds: “We started by introducing solar energy, which now powers 636 of our base stations. We then became one of the first operators in the world to adopt modern lithium batteries, which are now deployed at 500 of our sites, while also launching our own virtual power plant.

"Now, we want to go even further, and we are pleased that we will have long-term access to renewable electricity from a new solar power plant in Slovakia... We believe that, in the medium term, it will help us cover a substantial share of our network’s electricity consumption.”
