Indian conglomerate Adani Group confirmed it will participate in India’s highly anticipated 5G auction, as part of plans to launch private network solutions with no intentions to launch consumer services.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “We have received a lot of inquiries about our interest in the 5G space. Our intention is not to be in the consumer mobility space.
“As India prepares to roll out next-generation 5G services through this auction, we are one of the many applicants participating in the open bidding process.”
The company detailed it is buying spectrum to not only sell private network solutions but also enhanced cybersecurity products for airports, ports and logistics, power generation, transmission, distribution, and various manufacturing operations.
Adani will also use high frequency and low latency 5G networks to enhance its business across multiple sectors. If successful at auction, the company will build a digital platform encompassing super apps, edge data centres and industry command and control centres.
Adani Group makes four confirmed bidders for the Indian 5G spectrum auction this year, it will compete with Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) recently outlined rules for the building of private 5G networks.
India’s 5G auction will begin this month and commercial deployments are tipped to begin in August and September.
