The role of ICT in business efficiency has been in the news in Vietnam recently with plans announced for a national database dedicated to construction activities and news of the launch of SAP Labs Vietnam.
The country’s Ministry of Construction last week released a detailed plan to establish a national information system and database dedicated to construction activities across Vietnam.
This national database is expected to create a platform of transparent, accurate and timely information, enhancing the efficiency of government management and operational oversight in the construction sector.
The 12-step process includes professional surveys, standardising user interfaces and functions, system development, and rigorous functional and information security testing. A critical phase will focus on converting, standardising, and digitising initial data, followed by pilot training programmes for users.
The idea, according to local press reports, is to complete most of the groundwork this year. The completion of professional surveys is to be done by late July and the finalisation of local surveys and system construction by 20 August. The digitisation of initial data is to be completed by the end of October.
A trial system will be launched on 15 December. Data integration and synchronisation with the country’s National Data Centre is to begin from 20 December.
Another business efficiency landmark in the country comes with the news that SAP, a major name in enterprise applications and business AI, officially launched SAP Labs Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City on late last week.
SAP Labs Network is a network of SAP’s core research and development entities focused on developing and constantly improving key SAP solutions. SAP plans to invest over US$175 million in the innovation hub over the next five years.
Local news reports say Vietnam is now the 20th country globally and the second in Southeast Asia – after Singapore – to host an SAP Labs entity.
The new hub will support SAP’s product development in areas such as sustainable digital supply chains and AI-powered intelligent enterprise solutions.
