Digicel PNG’s Cellmoni customers can now use MiBank to top up wallets

Papua New Guinea telco Digicel PNG and local microbank MiBank announced on Friday they have formed a new strategic partnership that enables two-way transfers between MiBank accounts and Digicel’s mobile money service CellMoni.

Under the partnership terms between MiBank and Digicel Financial Services Limited (DFSL), MiBank customers can move money from their bank account to their CellMoni wallet in real time using an USSD shortcode or the MiBank mobile app.

CellMoni customers have been able to transfer money from their wallets to MiBank accounts since 2021. The new arrangement enables payments to flow both ways.

“This partnership – the first between a mobile network operator and payment service provider and a regulated financial institution in PNG – marks a major step toward enhancing financial inclusion and revolutionizing fintech services in the country,” said DFSL managing director Thompson Sakyi in a statement.

MiBank CFO Christian Reyes added that the technical integration between both companies paves the way for a broader range of financial services and digital products in the future for individual customers and micro to small medium enterprises (MSMEs).
