Nokia Siemens Networks(NSN)'s vision of five billion people connected by 2015 involves smart connectivity, an innovative concept that will provide powerful solutions for heterogeneous networks, i.e. those wireless networks using different access technologies. To deliver on its vision, NSN has appointed Andrew, a division of CommScope, to supply its aluminum radio frequency (RF) transmission line cable in India.
The deployment of Andrew's Heliax FXL aluminum cable and related products reflects NSN's significant wireless network expansion in the Indian market. As a long-time established supplier of NSN in India and around the world, Andrew was chosen in part for its site-kitting capabilities and its ability to ship directly from its Goa manufacturing facility (site kitting means different parts of the RF sub-systems such as cables, connectors, base stations etc are consolidated and shipped as a single batch to the actual cell site. In some cases, the parts are first fitted together and shipped to the actual site, which reduces the installation time at that site).
Andrew claims that "the patented micro-cell dielectric technology and triple-bonded construction of HELIAX FXL cables reduce the possibility of water ingress, which is believed to be the single biggest reason for cable failure and interruption of site service. These innovations all add up to lower life cycle costs for operators, while ensuring that network performance is at optimum levels."
Heliax FXL is part of the new 2.0 family of wireless transmission line systems from Andrew. It has a smooth-wall design that enhances proper first-time connectorisation. The smooth-wall design has a triple-bonded architecture with a closed microcell foam dielectric that is nearly watertight once the EZfit connectors are properly installed.
