IHS Cameroon launches tower kiosks

IHS Cameroon launched the ‘Tower Kiosk’ initiative in the Northwest and Southwest of Cameroon, a move to provide connectivity and digital services to communities in rural areas.

The unveiling of the initiative was made in the presence of Cameroon’s Prime Minister Dr Joseph Dion Ngute and dignitaries from the two regions that will benefit from the scheme.

The first three kiosks were opened in the rural communities of Idenau, Santa and Tombel. A total of 10 kiosks, five in each region, will be constructed by 2025.

IHS will also partner with NGOs to enhance the Tower Kiosk initiative, with the goal of providing new economic opportunities and contribute towards the long term stability of communities that have been experiencing security challenges.

The kiosks are powered by adjacent tower hybrid solutions, contain four charging points and will provide free access to local communities.

IHS said with these services the kiosks will help support local businesses, entrepreneurs, and provide the digital infrastructure to facilitate e-commerce, e-education, e-health, and e-governance activities. They will also serve as collection points for health-related community data.

IHS Cameroon CEO Olufemi Arosanyin said: “Through this initiative and the power of connectivity, we want to help bring new opportunities to communities in the Northwest and Southwest regions. We hope the “Tower Kiosk by IHS Cameroon” initiative will provide the infrastructure for people to access online resources and better engage in public life. With the support of local and international NGOs, who will oversee the day-to-day running of each kiosk, we aim to increase community confidence and participation.”
