Digital infrastructure provider WIOCC said on Wednesday it has signed a framework agreement with Mozambique’s national telco Tmcel to collaborate on high-capacity connectivity solutions across Mozambique and the Southern African region.
Under the agreement, the two companies will combine Tmcel's national infrastructure and local market expertise with WIOCC’s regional and international connectivity capabilities, including its capacity on the 2Africa East subsea cable and terrestrial routes into South Africa.
The agreement aims to enhance Mozambique’s digital backbone by strengthening its subsea and terrestrial infrastructure to improve network resilience and expand access.
Tmcel said the partnership will reinforce Mozambique’s position as a regional digital gateway and a critical hub for data traffic in Southern and Eastern Africa.
James Wekesa, group chief commercial officer at WIOCC Group, said the partnership will better position WIOCC to unlock the full potential of its investments in Mozambique by enabling efficient delivery of digital services to clients locally and across the broader region, including Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and South Africa.
“By leveraging WIOCC’s scalable capacity and regional network alongside Tmcel’s robust national infrastructure and government collaboration, we are creating a powerful foundation for enhanced connectivity, inclusive growth, and expanded digital services across Mozambique and beyond,” Wekesa said in a statement.
