India’s Netplus taps Nokia to upgrade broadband, IPTV network

Nokia announced on Wednesday that Indian ISP Netplus has deployed its 400G routing technology and software-defined access network (SDAN) platform to scale its high-speed broadband and IPTV services across Punjab and other cities.

Netplus said the deployment is part of a network upgrade to sustainably keep up with escalating consumer demand for on-demand video, online gaming and educational services.

Specifically, Netplus is leveraging Nokia’s 7250 Interconnect Routers (IXR) series for IP access and broadband aggregation and its 7750 Service Router (SR) for broadband network gateway functionality. Netplus is also using Nokia’s Lightspan optical line terminals for FTTH using GPON and XGSPON.

The new network architecture also leverages the Altiplano Access Controller for network automation functionality, which Nokia said will optimize service performance by providing closed-loop control, diagnostics and orchestration across access networks to help accelerate service rollouts.

Jivitesh Nayal, head of emerging business for network infrastructure at Nokia India, said the solutions will provide Netplus with a fully converged, future-proof architecture with improved service assurance and investment protection that will also deliver network energy efficiency and long-term scalability.

“With this deployment, Netplus gains the tools to ensure network reliability, reduce energy costs and evolve toward a future-ready architecture,” he said in a statement.

Netplus executive director Arshdeep Singh Mundi added that the rollout will enable it to transition its subscribers from traditional linear TV to on-demand IPTV services while opening doors for high-bandwidth applications such as e-commerce and digital classrooms.

“Consumers today want access to high-speed IPTV and interactive applications across multiple devices and locations. This deployment ensures we deliver an improved customer experience, better energy efficiency and flexibility to support evolving needs in business and education,” he said.
