e& UAE upgrades Cisco routers in IP transit platform to 400G

e& UAE says its EMIX IP transit platform has upgraded its UAE core with 400G links in collaboration with Cisco to meet demands for traffic growth that is growing over 20% annually.

The upgrade, announced last week, involved an upgrade of Cisco’s modular ASR9000 Aggregation Services Routers that currently run in EMIX’s core with 400G-enabled Ethernet line cards.

e& UAE said the upgrade enhances capacity and reduces end-to-end latency, which will improve performance and economics for carriers, ISPs, and mobile operators across the MENA region.

e& UAE added that the multi-year programme also introduces AI/ML-driven network automation, which it says enables intent-based, closed-loop operations that speed up provisioning, reduce human error, and strengthen service reliability as traffic demand scales.

“Moving EMIX to 400G is about giving our wholesale and operator customers more headroom, lower latency, and better unit economics as traffic patterns become more AI-driven, said Khalid Al Khaja, VP of business and IP core at e& UAE, in a statement.

He added that e& UAE will aligning its roadmap to extend the 400G upgrade to EMIX’s international PoPs as well.
