Trans Pacific Networks (TPN) said on Tuesday it has struck a deal with Ciena to deploy its optical solutions on the Echo and Tabua cable systems connecting the US to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands.
TPN is deploying Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme solution, which includes the Waveserver compact interconnect platform powered by WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e) as well as the 6500 Reconfigurable Line System (RLS).
TPN said the solution will deliver terabit wavelengths to both cable systems, as well as capabilities like spectrum sharing and fluid scalability, enabling TPN to seamlessly expand its network to address continued growth in bandwidth demand.
“With Ciena’s innovative optical solutions and expertise in subsea cable architecture, we can boost capacity and continue to drive economic growth across the Indo-Pacific,” said TPN COO Alfred Au Yeung in a statement.
Ciena’s professional services team will provide installation and support, while Pioneer Consulting will oversee route engineering, technical quality assurance, and end-to-end project execution.
The Echo subsea cable system spans just over 16,000 km, directly connecting the US to Singapore with 12 direct fibre pairs at 12 Tbps each, with additional landing points in Guam, Palau and Indonesia.
The Tabua cable – part of Google’s South Pacific Connect initiative – connects the US to Australia via Fiji. The cable – which is scheduled to be ready for service in the first quarter of this year – comprises of 16 fibre pairs on its trunk and branching segments, with a total minimum design capacity of 272 Tbps.
