Maxis Business upgrades optical transport network with Nokia gear

Malaysian telco Maxis revealed on Thursday that its business arm has deployed Nokia's optical transport technology to enhance its nationwide and cross-border network infrastructure to meet surging demand for AI and enterprise connectivity.

The deployment included Nokia’s 1830 PSS and PSE-6 optical technology to deliver up to 1.2 Tbps capacity per channel by expanding transmission spectrum using C+L band technology to double the carrying capacity of the existing fibre.

Maxis said it also deployed Nokia’s WaveSuite automation ensures high network resilience.

This translates into a fast, reliable and secure network for Maxis Business enterprise customers that provides robust support for mission-critical workloads. It also enables over-the-top (OTT) players and hyperscalers to deliver high-capacity 4K media streaming, high-density AI compute, data centre interconnect, and massive data backups without lag, the company said.

Maxis Business – which connects over 50 data centres across Malaysia – said the optical transport upgrade further enhances its ability to serve this segment, expanding its enterprise portfolio and ensuring hyperscalers and customers receive consistent, high-quality performance.
