Global wireless solutions group Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) is promoting what is believed to be the world's first corrugated aluminium transmission line and the lightest RF transmission cable currently on the market.
RFS has expanded its range of transmission line solutions with the release of Cellflex Lite, or L-series - a foam-dielectric corrugated coaxial cable with an aluminium outer conductor and a copper inner.
Cellflex L-series is claimed by RFS to offer the Asia-Pacific wireless market an alternative price-point/performance combination for establishing the base-station-to-antenna RF link. It is available now and is offered in 22.2 mm (7/8-inch) diameter. Weight is 330g/m, which is stated by RFS to offer a 34% reduction in weight when compared with Cellflex A, thereby making it easy to transport, handle and install.
The introduction of Cellflex L-series is designed to offer Asia-Pacific wireless carriers a long-awaited alternative to copper transmission line. Owing to the continued increase in raw material costs - particularly copper - Cellflex L-series is aimed at representing a cost-effective alternative to copper transmission lines.
Aluminium shares similar electrical, mechanical and RF properties to copper, and this is the motivation for RFS. Cellflex L-series will, it is hoped, be a lightweight solution to assist the rapid roll-out of wireless network infrastructure currently occurring across the Asia-Pacific region. With the rate of wireless network deployment at an all-time high, Asia-Pacific network providers are continually looking for alternative ways of delivering quality mobile services and coverage to users.
