MENA Cable System has deployed Infinera’s DTN-X platform across its trans-Egypt terrestrial network.
The deployment will provide multi-terabit capacity and make network services available for customers. The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, featuring the DTN-X packet optical transport networking platform, will allow MENA to differentiate its services and manage costs as it scales network capacity.
MENA, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, owns and operates a submarine telecommunications system connecting Europe to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Spanning three continents, the firm’s infrastructure provides wholesale capacity to global networks via Asia and the Middle East. With the deployment of an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, MENA is equipped to provide wholesale carriers with a range of connectivity services from STM-1 to 100 gigabit per second (Gb/s) and terabit capacity.
By integrating DWDM optical transmission and up to 12 terabits per second of non-blocking OTN switching into a single platform, the 500 Gb/s super-channels used by the platform provide network operators the ability to easily scale to terabits of transmission capacity. Infinera's intelligent software, combined with this converged platform, automates network operations with the intent of reducing both operational cost and service delivery times.
Ahmed Khalaf, managing director of MENA, said: "The solution’s OTN switching capability provides the ability to offer our customers terabit capacity immediately upon deployment and the scalability realised from this network enables MENA to use time as a weapon to offer wholesale customers services.”
