Chilean €50 million subsea cable deal

Chilean telecom operator Gtd Teleductos S.A. has awarded contracts worth €50 million to the Prysmian Group to develop a turnkey repeater-less submarine cable system connecting Arica to Puerto Montt in Chile.

The contracts have been secured through Prysmian’s submarine telecom division NSW, which became part of Prysmian Group following the acquisition of General Cable.

The project involves the design, supply and installation of more than 3,550 km of repeater-less fibre optic submarine cables. Prysmian will supply 11 cable segments of a length ranging from 135 km to more than 400 km. Delivery of cables is planned by December 2019. The new scheme envisages a repeater-less festoon system that will provide telecommunication connectivity to the whole country, in addition to linking Chile to Central and North America.
