A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development and testing of telco cloud solutions has been signed between Kazakhtelecom and Cisco in Barcelona during the MWC 2019 event.
According to the MoU, the parties agreed to jointly explore opportunities and share plans and experiences on digital transformation, SDN/NFV virtualisation and building telco cloud infrastructure (virtualisation of operator’s network and computing services). The signatories will take part in the joint development and testing of solutions for the virtualisation and orchestration of network architecture within the telco cloud.
Kazakhtelecom has already selected Cisco products for use in cloud communications nodes. The Cisco NSO is used by the operator as a multi-service orchestrator (LSO), NFV orchestrator and SDN controller, which manages the switching factory (leaf/spine switches) of the cloud communications node. These LSO / MANO products are used to manage the virtual infrastructure (NFVI) and the virtual infrastructure manager (VIM) from third-party vendors based on OCP (Open Compute Project) open solutions and resources: Nokia AirFrame and RedHat Linux/OpenStack.
“The key task on the way to digital transformation and, in particular when creating a 5G business of a cloud infrastructure provider, for us is the maximum automation of all processes. On the other hand, it is also important for us to follow the principles of openness when choosing solutions in order to avoid dependence on one manufacturer, and to be able to adapt solutions to our features without prompt involvement of the manufacturer in a flexible, prompt and commercially effective manner,” said Nurlan Meyrmanov, Managing Director for Innovation at Kazakhtelecom JSC.
