TOT selects 3Com advanced networking to connect 30,000 Thai government employees

TOT, Thailand's largest telecommunications company, has chosen 3Com solutions to provide the network communications infrastructure at the Bangkok Government Centre, a brand new mega-project of the Thai government.

3Com has been awarded a major part of the US$9.6 million tender for the 40,000-port Local Area Network (LAN) scheduled to be installed during the next few months, making it one of the largest networks of its kind in the region.

The project involves the extensive deployment of 3Com advanced network solutions including the Com Switch 5500-EI family of stackable Gigabit switches and the Switch 9500 series of 10 Gb multi-service core routing switches. The TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) and Network Access Control (NAC) solution are also being deployed along with an H3C SecPath firewall system that integrates firewall, denial-of-service (DoS) protection, VPN and traffic-management capabilities. Once installed, the network will connect several buildings within the complex, covering a total area of 929,800 m2 and servicing 30,000 employees in 33 departments.

Initiated by the Thai Ministry of Finance in 2003, the Bangkok Government Centre project was designed to house 28 government agencies and has been developed in a modern style to provide superior energy efficiency and quality of life for government employees. As such, the resulting office is set to provide its governmental tenants with one of the most modern and energy-efficient working areas available in Thailand today.

* 3Com Corporation is a $1.3 billion global converged network infrastructure supplier that helps customers achieve business success by delivering solutions that provide exceptional value. Through its TippingPoint division, 3Com provides network-based intrusion prevention systems that deliver in-depth application protection, infrastructure protection, and performance protection.
