Eutelsat and Vox to boost satellite coverage in South Africa

A multi-year distribution agreement to extend high-speed network connectivity to South Africa has been confirmed  after satellite operator Eutelsat Communications and infrastructure provider and telecommunications company Vox signed a distribution agreement for Eutelsat Konnect capacity over South Africa.

Starting this month, Vox plans to leverage the operational flexibility and power of Eutelsat Konnect, the new-generation high-throughput satellite described as Eutelsat’s market-leading service, to further grow its satellite customer base.

Vox, a South African company, describes itself as a leading innovator in the industry that takes full responsibility for all implemented technology and systems, from concept to installation, with solutions that support entrepreneurs, customers and commerce in areas ranging from data and voice to cloud, business collaboration and conferencing tools.

As for Eutelsat, with a global fleet of satellites and associated ground infrastructure, Eutelsat says it enables clients across video, data, government, fixed and mobile broadband markets to communicate effectively to their customers, irrespective of their location.

Konnect is Eutelsat’s satellite broadband initiative, operating in Africa, Europe and Russia. Konnect says Eutelsat, delivers easy, affordable and fast internet, supporting social and economic development by creating new digital roads, especially where terrestrial networks cannot reach.

Eutelsat has been busy in Africa in recent months. This announcement comes hard on the heels of May’s news that the company  is expanding its use of the Express Wi-Fi platform in partnership with Facebook to provide broadband services via satellite across several regions in sub-Saharan Africa.
