Egypt and MEA-focused digital solutions and ICT infrastructure provider Benya Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with OneWeb, the low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, relating to satellite coverage in MEA.
OneWeb NEOM JV, a joint venture formed by OneWeb and Neom in Saudi Arabia with the purpose of providing high-speed satellite connectivity to the city of Neom, as well as the kingdom, the wider Middle East and neighbouring East African states, agreed this MoU with Benya Group. The signing of the MoU took place during satcoms trade show CABSAT in Dubai on 19 May 2022.
Neom is a new smart city on the Red Sea coast in the Tabuk Province of north-western Saudi Arabia. The first section of Neom should be complete by 2025.
This deal marks Benya Group's first satellite project. In fact Benya Group is the first Egyptian firm to collaborate in the Middle East and Africa on the concept of LEO satellites, specifically with the OneWeb Network.
The MoU will facilitate discussions between the parties regarding the support and maintenance of telecom infrastructure throughout the Middle East and Africa, with the goal of providing fully integrated telecom networks to the network infrastructure of Benya Group’s clients.
In October 2021 we reported that OneWeb and Saudi Arabia's Neom Tech and Digital Holding Company had signed a pact for a US$200 million joint venture to provide satellite-based services to the countries of the Middle East and East Africa.
