SES, Intelsat end merger talks

Satellite company SES ceased merger talks with rival Intelsat, it confirmed in a statement today (June 22).

SES confirmed talks with Luxembourg-based Intelsat began in March, in what seemed to be a bid to rival giants Elon Musk’s Starlink and Amazon’s Project Kuiper. Consolidation in the satellite.

Blomberg broke the story last year reporting the merger would have been worth over US$10 billion including debt.

Intelsat came out of bankruptcy last year and had been engaging in talks with prospective partners.

Consolidation has been a hot trend in the satellite world as France-based Eutelsat struck an agreement to merge with UK-based OneWeb.
