PLDT Enterprise, the corporate arm of PLDT, announced on Tuesday it has signed a deal to resell Starlink’s LEO satellite broadband in the Philippines to businesses in underserved and hard-to-reach locations.
PLDT Enterprise said that by adding Starlink to its lineup, it can now offer a more robust suite of end-to-end connectivity solutions for a range of environments and operational demands, including managed SD-WAN, IoT, data centres and cybersecurity, among other things.
The company said Starlink will boost productivity, support operations and fuel growth for companies that have long struggled with limited connectivity or need a backup option of their existing service fails. PLDT Enterprise said it will especially target businesses such as logistics, banking, agriculture, disaster response, education and healthcare.
“Since it can route traffic to other gateways found in other locations, it can keep businesses connected even during local terrestrial outages,” said Nico Alcoseba, first VP and head of product management and global capacity strategy at PLDT Enterprise. “This makes it especially valuable for customers whose uninterrupted internet connection is mission critical.”
PLDT Enterprise is the second telco business to resell Starlink in the Philippines after Converge ICT Solutions’ subsidiary Converge Singapore signed a similar deal in March this year. Under that deal, Converge Singapore is offering Starlink-powered end-to-end turnkey solutions in the Philippines for sectors such as construction, mining, agriculture, retail and hospitality with operations in underserved areas.
