Globalcom begins BGAN through Nera terminal

Globalcom Satellite is now unveiling the Nera WorldPro 1000 portable satellite terminal. The terminal will operate via Inmarsat's powerful new 4th generation satellite network on a service called BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network).

BGAN is the first mobile satellite communications service to provide both landline quality voice and broadband data simultaneously through a single portable device on a global basis. It is also the first mobile satellite communications service to offer guaranteed data rates on demand, and even support SMS to and from cellular networks.

The boast of Nera is that with Inmarsat's BGAN service, one can set up a broadband mobile office in minutes in any location and that it is suitable for professionals working in exceptional circumstances, stopping at a remote site for only a brief period before moving on. Journalists, military personnel, aid workers and other established users of mobile satellite communications are the target users. The WorldPro 1000 measures 150mm x 200m and weighs less than 1kg.
