Hughes extends Mexican internet access

Satellite news relevant to Mexican consumers, as well as industry in the wider Latin American region, comes in the form of recent announcements from Hughes Network Systems and a new entity called AXESS Networks.

Broadband satellite networks and services giant Hughes Network Systems has announced the planned launch on 1 October in Mexico of its flagship high-speed satellite internet service. The introduction of HughesNet marks the expansion of Hughes’ presence in Mexico, where the company offers commercial enterprise and government services through its partner Star Group/StarGo.

As Hughes points out, there is a pressing need for high-speed internet in Mexico, especially in rural areas. With the launch of the HughesNet service in Mexico, says the company, approximately 95 percent of the population will have access to internet service – even in rural areas.

The HughesNet service in Mexico offers speeds of 25 Mbps for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads. Built-in Wi-Fi is included so customers can connect different devices to their HughesNet service. Customer care is available around the clock.

The region’s private sector may also be enthused with the news that Latin American-based Axesat and German-based CETel are combining to form AXESS Networks, although not just Latin America but the world could benefit from what the partners describe as ‘a new leading global player in the enterprise satellite communications industry’.

Pairing Axesat‘s commercial strategy and its presence in the Latin American market with CETel’s experience in providing solutions to the EMEA market has been the key driver for this merger, the partners add.

AXESS operates three main teleports, located in Germany, Mexico, and Colombia, and alternative teleports in Dubai and Peru. The company provides global coverage to a diverse base of industrial, energy, oil and gas, telecom, infrastructure, mining, marine and government/NGO customers. Current operations cover more than 50 countries on four continents.
