Oppo expands Latin America presence

OPPO, a smartphone manufacturer based in China, has been expanding its footprint globally and has announced that it has entered two new markets - Chile and Colombia.

OPPO had entered the Latin America market last year, starting with the Mexican market during 2020.

The president for LatAm Figo Zhang unveiled the ambitious long-term target in a statement announcing availability in the new markets, noting it was confident of its prospects given success in Mexico.

“Since first tapping into the Mexican market in 2020, we have become one of the fastest-growing brands in the country, recording YoY growth of 1200%. Thanks to the strong performance in Mexico, we have more confidence to bring our innovative products and services to Chilean and Colombian users. We have long-term ambitions for the Latin American market, where our goal is to become the region’s leading smartphone brand,” he said.

Chinese smartphone vendor claimed in the press release that its breakthrough into Latin America is one of many success stories in its global expansion.

Since it first began international operations in 2009, OPPO has gone on to establish an official presence in more than 40 markets across 6 continents worldwide, collaborating with local partners to bring its leading products and services to millions of users, it said.

"To date, OPPO has formed partnerships with over 80 network operators in these markets, including a series of partnerships with the likes of América Móvil, Vodafone, KDDI, and Softbank. These partnerships have helped OPPO gain traction in their respective markets and have contributed significantly to its global development," the statement said.

According to Canalys, the vendor shipped 37.6 million smartphones in the first quarter of this year. This number is up from 23.5m sales for the same quarter last year and worth 11% of the overall market share.
