DITO network bolsters footprint to 140 locations in Philippines

DITO Telecommunity, the Philippines' third player, has expanded its coverage in 17 more areas and is now available in a total of 140 cities nationwide.

“Following our June 12 announcement of DITO being commercially available in 123 cities as a means to commemorate the 123rd Independence Day celebration, we are pleased to inform everyone that we have added 17 new areas as of June 30," DITO chief administrative officer Adel Tamano was quoted as saying in the statement.

Since its commercial launch on March 8, DITO has expanded its network coverage from 15 pilot areas now to 140 cities and municipalities across the country, said the release. DITO is owned by a consortium made up of China Telecom and companies owned by Davao-based billionaire Dennis Uy.

DITO — formerly named the Mislatel Consortium — is slated to face another technical audit this July when it needs to meet the committed 51% coverage and average internet speed of 55 Mbps for its second year of operations.

A CNN report quoted DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago saying that the telco firm was already in the final stages of preparation for the next audit.

According to the third telco, from July 1 to 31, 2021, new and existing subscribers can avail of DITO’s 25GB of high-speed data for 30 days with unlimited texts to all networks, unlimited DITO-to-DITO calls, and 300 minutes of calls to other mobile networks for P199.
