Chinese smartphone vendor Realme announced it had shipped 200 million units since launching in 2018, making it the fifth largest vendor according to Counterpoint Research.
Reuters reported, the company stated it reached the milestone in Q2. Counterpoint Research showed that only four companies Vivo, Huawei, Samsung and Apple, took less time to hit the 200 million mark. Only 10 smartphone vendors have hit the milestone so far.
"We came into existence when there were over 700 smartphone brands in the world," said Realme CMO Xu Qi.
”We are extremely proud that we have been able to be in the world's top 10 brands for the past five years.”
Counterpoint Research stated there were over 700 smartphone brands globally in 2017 but currently only 250 are still in commission as of September.
The Chinese smartphone brand launched phones in the entry to mid tier but is planning its first premium line launch in the form of the Realme GT 5 Pro. Media speculation has priced it at US$500 and will bring key flagship features down to the mid-tier price point.
The handset will come equipped with Qualcomm’s top end Snapdragon 8 series chipset (also used by Xiaomi) and Sony’s Lytia camera sensor.
Realme’s parent company is BBK Electronics also owns Oppo and Vivo.
