Nokia, Oppo resolve patents dispute

Nokia and Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo reached a resolution and threw out their lawsuits from the Indian high court which was originally filed by the Finnish company. 

The Economic Times reported, the two companies had reached a confidential litigation settlement last month. The settlement followed a global patent-cross licence agreement between the two covering standard-essential patents in 5G and other communications technologies. 

Both parties have agreed to resolve all pending litigation in all jurisdictions. Specific details of the agreement have been kept confidential. The lawsuits involved a total of seven patents. 

Oppo was accused of using three standard essential patents which are necessary to create cellular systems 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G compliant, despite permission for their use expiring in 2021. 

This settlement follows Nokia also resolving a patent dispute with fellow Chinese smartphone manufacturer vivo.
