iPhone 5 to run on TD-SCDMA?

The next iteration of the Apple iPhone – rumoured to be the iPhone 5 – may function on China Mobile’s 3G TD-SCDMA network, according to an industry observer.

Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee, has stated his belief that when the Apple device launches in the “October timeframe” it will be compatible with the TD-SCDMA standard, which China Mobile helped to develop.

This belief is based on the comprehensive support for Chinese speakers offered by the new operating system. The iOS6 platform will be available in Cantonese and Mandarin, and will feature integrated local sites such as Baidu.

“We believe these new features will likely help drive a significant upgrade and new user cycle more powerful than what we saw with the iPhone 4 and 4S,” said Wu.
