Russian retail centres to promote Windows 8 devices

Russian operator MTS has announced a partnership with Microsoft to promote innovative mobile solutions, allowing customers to experience them by installing Windows 8 “Ecosystem Demo Zones” in MTS retail outlets.

It will be the first time that a number of Windows 8 devices are made available to customers in Russia and Central & Eastern Europe. Twenty stores will be opened in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, allowing the public to test smartphones, notebooks and tablets with advice from specialists. Consumers will be able to purchase products bundled with data plans immediately.

Andrei Dubovskov, President and Chief Executive Officer of MTS, commented: “The Windows 8 ecosystem, coupled with MTS’s network, will have a significant positive effect on people’s daily lives. Furthermore, the joint project with Microsoft will help augment the reputation of MTS retail centers as mobile-powered high-technology centres.”

MTS and Microsoft have worked together strategically for the past few years. At the end of 2011, MTS was one of the first retail chains to launch Windows Phone 7 devices.
