The first TD-SCDMA to use the Windows Phone operating system in China has been launched by Nokia and China Mobile. The Lumia 920T will be available for order by the end of the year, retailing at CNY4,599 (US$739).
The device provides advanced location services, photography innovation, and fast mobile browsing on China Mobile's 3G network, which uses TD-SCDMA technology. Nokia has not produced a device which supports this technology since its switch to the Windows Phone OS, although it does have compatible devices which are powered by its Symbian platform.
"Our close cooperation with Nokia is a key contributor to the success of China's TD industry, and will further enhance the rapidly growing TD ecosystem”, said Li Yue, President of China Mobile Communications Corporation.
Rival operator China Unicom, which provides 3G services using WCDMA, will also offer Windows Phone devices. The advent of a new TD-SCDMA device can be seen as Nokia’s attempt to regain ground that it has lost to Samsung and Lenovo in the Chinese market.
Nokia claims that the handset will provide a superior internet experience due to “cooperation with leading local providers Sina, Sohu, Tencent, Baidu and Renren”.
