Starhome has exhibited its latest roaming solutions to provide users with greater transparency of roaming costs at the Mobile World Congress. The new releases of Roam in Control and Data Charge Advisor offer users the ability to receive real-time notification of roaming charges to monitor and control roaming costs and allow operators to comply with the latest EU legislation for outbound roamers to receive notification of roaming charges on arrival in a new country.
Starhome's Roam In Control service enables operators to allow subscribers to cap their voice and data roaming expenses and receive notification once their limit has been reached. With Roam In Control operators can offer tailored pricing packages to different subscriber segments, as well as enable post-paid subscribers to limit their services similar to prepaid subscribers. Roamers also have the option of receiving real-time responses on tariffs per minute or for specific destinations.
The Data Charge Advisor service offers subscribers greater visibility of roaming data charges by providing them with real-time notification of tariffs when they begin a GPRS/UMTS session and actual charging information during and at the end of the session. It also enables HPMN operators to inform roamers about other available networks in the visited country that may be more cost effective or offer specific data services such as 3G. Data usage is clearer since it can be expressed in both KB and as costs. The Data Charge Advisor can be configured in a variety of ways to allow notification via SMS or WAP push to a URL when certain data thresholds have been reached or a charge balance exceeded.
Shlomo Wolfman (COO) of Starhome comments, "Today users are very aware of the range of mobile data roaming costs in operation across member states, these products help operators ensure that users have full visibility of costs to allay any fears of unknown charges which could dissuade them from using roaming services. Providing users with this level of transparency of charges for both voice and data roaming is likely to increase usage of roaming voice and data services and reduce customer complaints and frustration resulting from receiving unexpectedly high bills."
