Supporters of WiMAX have been left disappointed by the fact that Sprint Nextel Corp and Clearwire Corp will not now be building a WiMAX-based wireless network. Advocates of WiMAX include Intel and Motorola both of whom have developed chips capable of operating under the WiMAX environment.
Sprint’s problems have been reported on this site; the company is currently undergoing major boardroom changes and difficulties. Clear decision-making is not easy and such decisions may have to be deferred.
Total value of the intended wireless network was estimated at US$5 billion. WiMAX is due to get underway in several developing markets in Africa, and scores because of its claimed high-speed connectivity and low prices as well as reaching remote areas. The WiMAX mindset seems to be that it needs to prove itself in the USA before other regions and countries venture into it.
