Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo) has announced the auction results for the 2.3GHz frequency.
According to a local media report, PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) and PT Smart Telecom (Smartfren) managed to become winners in the selection of frequencies that can be used for 5G networks.
The auction price by Telkomsel is IDR 176.9 billion (USD12.2 million) per block. The company gets two blocks, namely A and C. Meanwhile, the auction price for Smartfren is IDR 176.5 billion with block B, the reports revealed quoting official sources at Kemenkominfo.
The 2.3 GHz frequency auction is divided into three blocks in the range 2360-2390 MHz with a capacity width of 10MHz each. This capacity will be utilized by cellular operators to increase service capacity and implement 5G network technology.
With these auction results, Smartfren and Telkomsel have the opportunity to get an additional frequency spectrum of 10 MHz and 20 MHz respectively in the 2.3 GHz band.
After announcing the re-opening of the 2.3 GHz frequency auction in mid-March, Indonesian telcos Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo, Smartfren, Hutchison 3 Indonesia (Tri), and XL Axiata took selection documents. However, only Smartfren, Telkomsel, and XL Axiata submitted application documents for frequency auction selection and the three cellular operators passed the administrative evaluation. XL Axiata didn't win the auction.
