From 2G – which is still popular in many regions - to 5G, more and more cellular systems are emerging and co-existing. A solution to balance between new technology and CAPEX/OPEX is necessary for telcos or system integrators.
Prevail Technology, a company focused on radio technology, recently released a solution offering improved 5G cellular coverage for medium/small sites: the 5G Single-Path MIMO system, which allows NSA/SA 5G DAS to be installed quickly and with much lower cost.
Prevail’s 5G Single-Path MIMO system is a new indoor coverage system, using a single feeder to achieve 5G MIMO +2/3/4G access to the whole network, compatible with the original indoor distributed coverage system. Without replacing the original components, 5G evolution and upgrade can be successfully completed by adding Single-Pathing units and remote active antenna, greatly saving the construction cost and shortening the construction period.
Improving on existing passive DAS, the 5G Single-Path MIMO system comprises by three simple elements:
- 5G NR Access Unit (AU to introduce 5G signal),
- Active Antenna Remote Unit (RU to radiate 5G signal)
- Power Supply Unit (PSU to power RU)
Prevail Technology has rolled out this solution in many cities in China with excellent performance. The company hopes to help more and more international telcos improve their 5G network coverage, by deploying this efficient and more economical solution.
