mmWave Repeater Application in 5G Network

mmWave’s superwide band and narrow beam offer significant advantages for use in modern 5G networks, broadband satcom systems, and satcom and radar systems.

The narrow beam allows precise identification of small targets and remote observation over long distances, providing greater precision. Additionally, the short-distance transmission of the narrow beam reduces the possibility of long-distance transmissions being intercepted, making mmWave significantly more secure than sub-6 band frequencies. The technology enables higher speeds, lower energy consumption, and more connections in the 5G era.

Prevail Technology has also started to develop mmWave repeater applications for 5G coverage. In the field trials, Prevail’s mmWave repeater recorded excellent performance:

  • Data speed: currently the repeater achieves 85% that of the gNB, with 90-95% expected soon
  • Noise optimized, narrower beam, aggregate useful signal, disturbing signal weaker
  • Lower power consumption: 10% that of gNB
  • Super delay, less than 5ns to guarantee error-free applications such as real-time telesurgery

Smart e-scanning of the gNB status is also planned. The intensive tests are being carried out and formal commercial release of Prevail’s mmWave repeater is scheduled for the second half of this year.
