Crnogorski Telekom brings 3.6GHz commercial 5G to Montenegro

Montenegro’s Crnogorski Telekom (CT) has launched a commercial 5G network in the capital of Podgorica, and is lining up the launch of a new VoLTE service.

In March 2022 the operator became the first in the country to launch 5G services, using dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) to offer the service via 4G spectrum and existing infrastructure. By July, this service covered the majority of Podgorica and is now available to more than 75% of Montenegro’s population.

CT’s latest launch instead uses 3.6GHz spectrum that the operator won in the multi-band spectrum auction held in December last year. CT claims that its implementation of 5G-ready base stations shows its commitment “to build the fastest, largest and strongest mobile network in Montenegro.”

Radovan Vukotic, CT’s Manager of Non-Voice Service Platforms Development, said: “By moving from traditional to VoLTE technology in the domain of voice services, we are using the potential of the new 4G and 5G networks not only for the needs of internet services, but also for the development of new innovative voice services, some of which will soon be additionally made available to users of our company’s services.”
