Cable & Wireless (C&W) Europe, Asia & US has today announced the launch of its Next-Generation Network (NGN) known as the Multi-Service Platform (MSP) in India. The announcement sees C&W become the first international telecom provider to receive all necessary security clearances from the Department of Telecommunications - Government of India, to enable the company to launch advanced IP-based solutions delivered directly by C&W in India.
Multi-national and local customers will now be able to benefit from managed IP Services, eg, Ethernet-based solutions, value-added communications applications, and International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC) alongside improved reliability, availability and performance. The company has invested US$30 million in the last nine months in building this new MSP network in India, which will form part of the company's core backbone allowing connectivity to its vast global network across Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America. C&W will begin migrating customers to the new platform from February 2009 onwards.
C&W has set up its own international gateways (two in Mumbai and two in Chennai) and has received Lawful Interception and Monitoring Solution (LIMS) clearances, while also offering Virtual Private Network-based (VPN) services such as Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS), IP- VPN QoS, and ATM, since February 2008, when it was first awarded the International Long Distance and National Long Distance licences.
Sunanda Das, Managing Director - India, C&W, added, "We're very excited to be the first international service provider to launch our full services in India on the MSP platform. We will be able to provide resilient and flexible services to corporates in India based on our robust infrastructure. This will also allow us to offer our existing global services in the Indian market."
Speaking on the announcement, Nick Lambert, Managing Director Worldwide and President, Asia-Pacific at C&W EAUS said: "Our mission has always been to redefine the way in which the telecom industry meets the needs of its customers. It is a central part of our strategy to remove the constraints of traditional telecoms provision to deliver the agility and flexibility demanded by our customers in today's globalised and competitive environment. The MSP offers both C&W and our customers the ability to implement ground-breaking ideas that deliver measurable business value."
Supporting more than 150 multinational and Indian customers, with service coverage across key cities in India, the new network will have multiple levels of transmission and cable redundancies to ensure seamless business continuity to the customers. The platform will help protect businesses from network failures such as the recent under-sea cable breaks near Alexandria, Egypt, that disrupted services across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The new network has been designed to deliver sub-second re-routing of traffic via alternative cable systems, ensuring minimal impact to businesses should any cable failure occur.
The platform will support a range of services over a single access bearer to a customer's site. This helps lower the cost of communication and provides corporations with the ability to change or upgrade their service without implementation of new access circuits. The new platform will also offer customers seamless access to a new range of services that can provide an increase in flexibility and scalability for their corporate network.
* C&W has operated in India since 1995, providing enterprise and carrier telecommunication solutions including dedicated services, managed security services, and hosting to the largest users of telecoms services across the globe. As testament to this, the company has invested in initiatives such as the Europe India Gateway Consortium.
