Motorola Solutions boosts comms in São Paulo Subway

The São Paulo Subway, one of Latin America's largest subway transportation operators, which operates in the most populous city in Brazil, has implemented a new P25 (two-way radio) land mobile radio (LMR) communication system from Motorola Solutions.

This strategic investment, representing a major upgrade over the previous analogue system, is expected to significantly enhance operational efficiency and safety for the approximately three million passengers who travel through the network every day.

Motorola Solutions, a company that builds and connects technologies to help protect people, property and places, says that this new digital LMR solution provides uniform and reliable coverage that is essential for a faster response to incidents, better operational coordination and increased safety for riders and staff. The subway operator says that this critical infrastructure is also designed to support future line expansions.

The new radio system links communications across the three main lines of São Paulo's subway, the 1 (Blue), 2 (Green) and 3 (Red) lines. It offers greater channel capacity and more efficient use of the radio frequency spectrum to meet the safety and operational requirements of this highly complex environment.

The system includes more than 3,000 Motorola Solutions’ mission-critical radios. Its features include encryption and network priority for emergency calls, as well as clear and continuous communication in underground areas, where high levels of interference are common.
