Cambodian telco Smart Axiata announced on Monday it is partnering with FastWin Media to roll out free 5G-powered Wi-Fi at airport shuttle bus stations and onboard buses serving routes to and from Techo International Airport (TIA).
Under the project – which is supported by the Phnom Penh City Bus Authority – bus stops along the airport bus route will be transformed into solar-powered public transport shelters equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity backhauled by Smart's recently launched 5G network. Meanwhile, buses serving the route will provide on-board Wi-Fi, also backhauled by 5G.
Smart Axiata CEO Ritesh Kumar Singh said the installation of 5G-powered Wi-Fi for airport buses will bring Cambodia’s tourism experience in line with other international destinations by enabling travelers to book hotels, arrange transportation, access digital tickets, or simply stay connected with family and friends while waiting for the bus or en route to their lodgings.
“By offering free high-speed internet from the bus station to the bus itself, we aim to support Cambodia’s tourism sector while making public transport more attractive, accessible, and sustainable,” he said in a statement.
“Our collaboration with Smart Axiata reflects a shared goal to create smarter, greener, and more connected public spaces that serve both visitors and everyday commuters,” added FastWin Media CEO Ek Rotana.
